2016 Italian Market Festival
Philadelphia’s Italian Market on South 9th Street is the nation’s oldest outdoor market and is still in use today. On the third weekend in May there is a celebration of everything that 9th Street is known for – lively vendors, Italian delicacies, live entertainment and fun contests. On Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22 from 11 am to 6 pm the 2016 Italian Market Festival kicks off yet again, rain or shine. It’s a weekend of fun you don’t want to miss!
With over 100 vendors to choose from you can find unique South Philly delights or one of a kind pieces from local vendors. Make sure to check out some of these Italian Market staples:
- Anastasi Seafood – Celebrating almost a century at its corner locale of the Italian Market, Anastasi’s offers seafood from around the world focusing on freshness. They have a full service bar, restaurant and fish market.
- DiBruno Bros – Stepping into this little shop is an experience. A mainstay in the market for the past 75 years, the original DiBruno Bros (they now have 7 locations!) is cheese heaven, featuring so many types you didn’t know existed. They also offer an antipasti bar, charcuterie station and other Italian goodies and gift baskets.
- Fante’s – This family owned kitchen shop will not disappoint. It is a tiny mecca for all things cooking and baking, eating and drinking. And be sure to grab an espresso as you browse around! You definitely won’t leave empty handed.
- Isgro Pasticceria – This family owned Italian pastry shop has been serving up delicious sweets for over 100 years. Make sure you stop by for at least some cannoli.
When the crowds get too thick, be sure to save room in your belly for a visit to Geno’s Steaks. We’re a quick walk from the Italian Market located on 9th and Passyunk streets. Geno’s was founded in the 1960s and we are still a mainstay in the neighborhood today. Our cheesesteaks are made with only the best ingredients – thinly sliced rib-eye steak grilled to perfection and topped with creamy melted cheese. Most people like the sandwiches just the way they are, but we offer condiments and delicious cheese fries to wash it all down. We look forward to seeing you and don’t forget to tag us @genossteaks in your pics!
