Light! Camera! Action! From October 20 to 30, Philadelphia will be celebrating all things cinema during the 25th Philadelphia Film Festival. During the festival, venues across the city will be showcasing highly anticipated independent and foreign films, and Philadelphia will be raising awareness about its status as a flourishing cinematic city.
During the 11-day festival, more than 3,542 films will be screened at the URBN Annex Screening Room
at Drexel University, Prince Theater, Ritz-Carlton on the Avenue of the Arts, AKA, Ritz Five, Ritz East, and Festival Longue. Some of the most popular movies that are being played include:
- The opening night film La La Land, featuring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. A refreshing film that revives the movie-musical genre, La La Land tells the story of a struggling actress and jazz musician who fall in love while also chasing their dreams. You can check it out on October 20 at 8 p.m. in the Prince Theater.
- The closing night film Arrival, a science-fiction film starring Amy Adams that takes during a time when aliens have arrived on Earth. Unlike other alien movies, this film explores how the arrival of extra-terrestrials tests humans around the world. Prince Theater will be showing Arrival on October 28 at p.m.
- Jackie, a biopic of the assassination of John F. Kennedy through the eyes of his wife. Starring Natalie Portman, this film looks at the events leading up to and following the assassination from a new perspective. Playing October 21 at 7:15 p.m. in Prince Theater.
- Lion, a film inspired by a true story that stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, and Nicole Kidman. After being separated from his family when he was five years old, the main character begins a search for his family while also trying to find his sense of identity. Prince Theater will show is on October 26 at 7:10 p.m.
