Cool off this summer at WINTER the Philadelphia Zoo! Until August 20, head over to the zoo to take a ride down a snow-covered incline or learn about animals that live in cold climates.
Snow Leopard Slope
Take a ride down the 120-foot-long Snow Leopard Slope, an incline that towers 20 feet high. Those shorter than 40 inches can check out the Polar Bear Pavilion, which is decked out with smaller slopes for younger audiences.
Learning Opportunities
Visitors of all ages can dive deeper into the realm of cold weather animals. For example, attendees will learn about the zoo’s polar bear, Coldilocks, who grows transparent fur as opposed to white fur due to the warm weather. Other animals such as snow leopards will also be featured.
Snow in the Summer?
The Philadelphia Zoo uses a company called SnowMagic for their summertime snow. The system is called ICS™ and can create up to 200 tons of snow each day, even on a hot summer day. The snow is free of chemicals and environmentally friendly, making it safe for zoo visitors.
WINTER at the Zoo Entry
There is an additional cost for WINTER entry. Deluxe, Contributors, and Friends members pay an additional $6, and general admission is an extra $8 with regular tickets. Guests are permitted two hours in the exhibit with their timed ticket.
What to Wear
Guests are required to wear closed-toed shoes. High heels, open-toed sandals, and flip flops are not permitted in the WINTER exhibit. It is also recommended that attendees bring along a long-sleeved top in case they get cold while visiting.
