Come celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway with Geno’s Steaks at Philadelphia’s Parkway 100. From September 8, 2017 to November 16, 2018 the City of Philadelphia will ring in a century of the Parkway with seemingly endless events. Here are a few to look forward to in the month of September.
We Are Connected Festival
September 8, 4 to 10 p.m.
Philadelphia will kick off the centennial celebration with a festival full of activities great for the entire family. The Parkway Museums District will be the main participant, extending their hours and offering free or pay-as-you-wish admission. Additional fun attractions will be available, such as life-size games and puzzles and an illuminated hot air balloon at night.
Cai Guo-Qiang: Fireflies
September 14 to October 8, Thursdays through Sundays, 6 to 10 p.m.
This free event with feature work from artist Cai Guo-Qiang. The installation contains 27 moving, illuminated sculptures, which are made from handmade paper lanterns. Visitors will have the opportunity to ride in the “moving fireflies” up and down a route between Sister Cities Park and Iroquois Park.
“The Great Tour”
September 23, 5 to 8:30 p.m.
On a route beginning at the Philadelphia City Hall Visitor Center and ending at Water Works, visitors will have the opportunity to take a tour of the history of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The guides will point out important sites during the tour. Admission is $10, and children under 12 years old ride for free.
Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies
September 30, 2017 to January 15, 2018
Head over to the Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University for a special exhibition concerning dinosaur eggs, nests, and embryos. Attendees will even get the chance to interact with the fossils and be paleontologists for the day by searching for eggs and more.
