Are you looking for fun things to do in Philadelphia during the last few weeks of summer? Many of your favorite parks, such as Fairmount Park, Spruce Street Harbor Park and more, host film screenings of popular movies outside during the summer months! These free screenings are a perfect activity for the whole family.
Which Parks Participate?
- Fairmount Park Conservancy, Park Friends Groups and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation consistently offer residents of Philadelphia fun things to do. For their Movie in the Park Program, they host movie screenings in parks across the city. On September 15, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will play in Pennypack Park. For the full list of screenings, check out this post from Philadelphia Parks & Recreation.
- Second Sunday Cinema Series at Spruce Street Harbor Park: Every second Sunday, the park hosts a fun activity in Philadelphia. Spruce Street Harbor Park plays a double feature of a classic television show and a classic movie. On September 10, the park will show “The Adventures of Superman” and “Philadelphia Story.”
Grab a Steak
For a tasty movie treat that puts popcorn to shame, come to Geno’s and pick up the best cheesesteaks in Philadelphia before the screenings. We are open 24/7, so if you won’t make it to the shop before your movie, head over after for a late-night snack.
Most screenings begin as the sun is setting around 8:30 p.m. Be sure to head over early to each location to get a great spot for the family to spread out!
