This year is the fifth anniversary of Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest. The outdoor skating rink at Penn’s Landing is the only one of its kind, just like Geno’s famous cheesesteaks in Philly. Winterfest features an Olympic-sized skating rink with gorgeous views of the Delaware River and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.
The festival runs from November 24, 2017 to March 4, 2018, so you have a lot of time to check it out. However, we recommend going early to get your family into the holiday spirit (plus, temperatures in November are still moderate)! The event also includes a lodge and winter garden with a lit holiday tree, outdoor seating with firepits, cabins, arcade-style games, and more. Franklin Fountain will also have a cabin at Winterfest, serving tasty treats like hot chocolate, hot fudge sundaes, and do-it-yourself s’more kits for the event fire pits.
The Lodge Restaurant and Bar is a wraparound porch lined with rocking chairs, blankets, and heat lamps, while The Kids Lodge is an oasis for children. It is lined with rubber mats, so kids can go directly from the rink to the heated lodge without having to take off their skates. The Kids Lodge has a variety of arcade games such as air hockey and pin ball.
General admission to Winterfest is free, with a $3 skating fee and $10 ice skate rentals. Be sure to keep checking the website for updated information about events for the 2017 to 2018 season of Winterfest. If you are planning a party or other event, the Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest has a variety of options for you.
The skating rink at Penn’s Landing is a quick trip to Old City, one of the most famous neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Tourists can visit the Liberty Bell or Independence Mall or walk the cobblestone streets. Residents love the art galleries, tasty restaurants, and more. However, there is no better way to warm up on a chilly November day than with Geno’s famous cheesesteaks in Philly. We are open 24/7, so stop by anytime!
